![]() ![]() Knowing that everyone in his live left, died, or didn’t care if he was gone, made him cold. Only when he drank, could he get a break from this problem, he didn’t think about it. He didn’t know how to be a child or a parent. The only person that ever felt love for him was gone. ![]() He lost interest in everything that had to do with relationships. He even tried to venture out and find his father, but no such luck. He wanted to be as far away from Darlene as possible. There wasn’t humiliation, but there was anger. ![]() He’s standing in a house he grew up in and now all these other “family” members are present but he can’t figure out if this is really his family.ĭuring the first rape scene when the two white men force him to finish in front of them, he shows no compassion toward the girl and actually thinks about causing her pain because she was the instigator. He doesn’t realize at the funeral nor does the story ever mention it, but I think this is where he feels the most uncomfortable. I think this disturbs a child, not knowing if you’re truly alone in the world. It’s at his aunt’s funeral banquet that he can’t figure out whether or not these people are really his family. He ponders whether or not it would have been easier to die as a baby than drag his life out. I think Cholly didn’t consider his life a life worth saving. ![]()
